How much does ceramic coating cost in Derby?
At J.R Detailing, ceramic coating starts at £390 for a small car — a Gloss Enhancement (£240) plus a 2-year coating (£150).
A coating is never applied on its own. It seals in whatever is underneath, so the paint is always corrected first. That's why the price is the correction package plus the coating you choose.

- Stage One + 2-year coatingsmall / large£450 / £500
- Stage Two — 7-year coating includedsmall / large£750 / £800

Ceramic coating in Derby
Do I need a ceramic coating?
Not always. A coating makes the car easier to keep clean and protects freshly corrected paint for years rather than months. It's optional with Gloss Enhancement and Stage One, and included with Stage Two.
Worth it if: you're keeping the car for a few years, it lives outside, you want washing to be quicker and gentler, or you've just had the paint corrected — the best time to coat, because it locks that finish in.
Less worth it if: you're selling the car soon, or you're happy to wax it every few weeks.
Be clear on what it won't do: a coating isn't scratch-proof, it won't stop stone chips, and the car still needs washing — just less often and with less effort.
Which paint correction package do I need?
Most daily-driven cars suit Stage One. Gloss Enhancement is for paint in good condition that has lost its depth; Stage Two is for heavier swirling, deeper scratches and holograms.
- Gloss Enhancementreduces/removes up to 20% of defects — good paint that's lost its shine£240 / £260
- Stage Onereduces/removes up to 70% — swirls, wash marring, light scratches£300 / £350
- Stage Tworeduces/removes up to 90% — heavy defects, holograms; 7-year coating included£750 / £800
New or nearly-new car? The New Car Package (£375) refines dealer-prep marks and coats the paint from day one.
Quick check: if a scratch catches your fingernail, it's usually too deep to polish out safely. The easiest way to know is to send a couple of photos of the paint in daylight — we'll recommend the lightest option that gets the result.
Defect figures are a guide from typical jobs, not a promise. Every car is assessed and its paint depth measured before work starts.
What can paint correction achieve?
Paint correction can reduce or remove swirl marks, light-to-moderate scratches, water spotting, oxidation, haze and holograms, and restore a gloss that washing and waxing never will. It can't repair anything that goes through the clear coat.
Correction levels the clear coat with a machine polisher and progressively finer compounds, so defects are taken out rather than filled with a glaze that washes away. It removes a very thin layer of lacquer, so paint depth is measured first and monitored throughout.
It can't fix: stone chips, deep key scratches, cracked or flaking paint, dents, or failed lacquer — those need bodywork or a respray. We'll tell you that up front rather than chase a mark and thin the paint.

How long does a ceramic coating last?
You choose the durability: 2, 3, 4–5 or 7 years. Those are rated durations, which assume the aftercare is followed.
For a daily driver kept a few years, the 2 or 3-year coatings are good value. For a car you're keeping long term, or one that lives outside, the 4–5 or 7-year options are harder-wearing and worth the difference.
Aftercare: don't wash the car for the first seven days while the coating cures. After that, use a pH-neutral shampoo, two buckets and a clean mitt, and avoid brush car washes. For cars we've coated, a maintenance wash and top-up is £40.
What's the difference between paint correction and ceramic coating?
Correction removes defects that are already in the paint. Coating protects the paint from new ones. They're different jobs, priced separately — and the coating always goes on after correction, never instead of it.
How long will you need my car?
It depends on the level and the size of the car. Gloss Enhancement is typically a day's work; Stage Two is several days. We confirm a timescale once we've seen the paint.
